On 18 July 2023, The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training issued an instruction (No. 058/23) announcing three days break from work for workers and employees to participate in the upcoming National General Elections which will take place on Sunday, 23 July 2023. The instruction requires employers nationwide must allow employees to take three days off from 22 – 24 July 2023 to facilitate employees’ ability to participate and vote. Note that this instruction applies to all employees generally.

During this period of leave, employees’ wages and benefits must be maintained. Employers are also advised to pay employees before 22 July 2023 or grant wage advances to employees who make such requests. Upon their return, Employees will not be required to present any documents. Nevertheless, Employees absent beyond the days off may be subject to disciplinary measures prescribed under the employer’s internal regulations.
