Notification of Companies’ Obligation in Using the National Domain

On 1 April 2022, the Ministry of Commerce (“MOC”) and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (“MPTC”) jointly issued Notification No. 0837 on the Requirement of the Use of the National Second-Level Domain Name (“.com.kh”) and the Submission of the E-mail Address with National Second-Level Domain Name when filing Annual Declaration of Commercial Enterprise (“Notification No. 0837”).

Notification No.0837 notifies that, pursuant to Article 7 of the Law on the Commercial Enterprises, and Article 7 of Sub-Decree No. 287 on the Management and Use of the National Domain Names on the Internet, all companies registered in Cambodia are required to use a national second-level domain name “.com.kh” and to submit an email address with the national second-level domain name when filing its ADCE.

Companies that do not have the national second-level domain “.com.kh” shall urgently apply for the domain from the Telecommunications Regulator of Cambodia. The requirement to submit the email address with the national second-level domain during the ADCE will begin from 1 January 2023.

Newly incorporated companies should apply for the national second-level domain name upon its incorporation. Notwithstanding this new requirement, in addition to the national second-level domain name, the company may still use other domain names for its business operations.
