2022 Commune Election Holiday Announcement

2022 Commune Election Holiday Announced for Workers and Employees

On 24 May 2022, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training issued a notification (No. 019/22) announcing three days break from work for workers and employees to participate in the upcoming commune election. The notice requires employers nationwide to allow employees one day off before, during, and after the election day (5 June 2022) to facilitate employees’ ability to participate and vote. In other words, employees may take three days off from 4-6 June 2022.

During this period, employee wages and benefits must be maintained. Employees will not be required to present any documents when returning to work. Employers must also try to pay the employee before 5 June 2022 or grant wage advances to employees who make such requests. Employees absent beyond the days off will be subject to disciplinary measures under the employer’s internal regulations.
