Experience

Max is the Foreign Advisor leading the Real Estate Practise Group.  Max has experience in advising on all aspects of foreign investment and doing business in Cambodia, including market entry, project implementation, and regulatory compliance.  Max has the multi-sector experience, including property development; energy, environment, and natural resources; labor and employment; immigration and nationality; cultural heritage; microfinance, insurance, taxation, and customs.
Max has devoted time to the Cambodian community and civil society as Chairman of the Board and Director of several Cambodian not-for-profits.  Max has published works and presented at seminars and conferences in Cambodia and regionally on contract law, labor law, administrative law, civil procedure, criminal procedure, cultural property protection, and refugee and migration law.

Career

Max worked as a lawyer in Australia in civil and commercial law (contracts, torts, corporate, property, and labor) as well as administrative law, disability law, refugee law, migration law, human rights law, and criminal law. In Cambodia since 1995, Max worked on legal and judicial reform and international development, including on AusAID and USAID projects, with the United Nations, the IMF, and local and international not-for-profits. Since 2007 Max was the managing director of Sciaroni & Associates, Head of the Real Estate Practise Group with DFDL, and Director, Corporate Services, at KPMG Cambodia. Max joined SOK SIPHANA & ASSOCIATES in 2021.
