Dr.SOK addresses Investment Opportunities in Cambodia at the CCE SEA Economic Symposium in France

Dr. SOK Siphana, our Founding Partner, was recently honored to be a speaker at the Southeast Asia Economic Symposium, titled “The New Tigers,” organized by Archetype Group and The Conseillers du Commerce extérieur de la France (CCEs) at the Chamber of the Grand Est Region in Strasbourg, France on 2 May 2023.

Dr. SOK’s speech was a testament to the progress Cambodia has made in recent years and the many opportunities available for investors in the country’s diverse and rapidly expanding economy.

The speech centered around Cambodia’s evolving economic landscape, which is rapidly shedding its status as a Least Developed Country. Thanks to its aggressive economic liberalization policies, Cambodia has emerged as a significant player in regional and global trade.

“Over the past 20 years, excluding the recession suffered by COVID-19, Cambodia has become a much more modern country than Western beliefs suggest. The country has embarked on a path of aggressive economic liberalization and has become an important player in regional and global trade.”

Dr. SOK drew attention to Cambodia’s impressive economic growth rate: “Cambodia has experienced an average annual growth rate of 7.7% for two decades, making it the sixth fastest growing country in the world over that period.”

He also spoke about Cambodia’s longstanding relationship with France and highlighted how both countries have been able to strengthen their cooperation in recent times. As Cambodia currently holds the chair of ASEAN and France heads the European Union, the two nations have been able to collaborate on projects that promote a common future.

“Cambodia by its history and heritage has a very large French-speaking community, so many French companies have established themselves on our territory in recent years. Through the French and European chambers of commerce, the ties that bind our two communities together are strengthened through projects for the common future. The friendship between Cambodians and the French is well established.”

Furthermore, Dr. SOK highlighted Cambodia’s prospects in agriculture, banking, and insurance sectors, and the rapid growth of digitalization and e-commerce activities in the country. He also spoke about several infrastructure projects underway in the country, including a new highway that connects the capital city of Phnom Penh to the port of Sihanoukville, the development of two new airports, and the expansion of the Autonomous Port of Sihanoukville.
